Exploring awakening, consciousness and the deeper nature of who you are

Down-to-earth spirituality

Spiritual practice can only take you so far if old patterns, anxiety or self-doubt keep pulling you back. You may already have a practice, a path and moments of real clarity, even a genuine awakening. Yet the clarity doesn't always last, and it can feel like you're pushing against something you can't quite name.

Whether you're just beginning to explore spirituality or have been on the path for years, your psychological patterns are part of the journey. As your awareness deepens, old wounds, protective patterns and familiar ways of seeing yourself may become more apparent. Understanding these patterns can be as important as exploring awareness itself. Spiritual practice doesn't necessarily resolve them, and psychological understanding alone may not answer the deeper questions you're beginning to ask.

My approach is practical and down-to-earth. No dogma, no performance, no promises of bliss. I bring spiritual coaching and mentoring together with psychological understanding and experiential inner work, so that what opens in you can take root in ordinary life.

The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are — Carl Jung

Where psychology and spirituality meet

Much of how we see ourselves comes from our history, beliefs and conditioning. Often what blocks spiritual growth isn't spiritual at all. It might be a part of you that doesn't feel safe letting go, an old wound that keeps getting triggered, or a sense of self built on staying in control.

Spirituality can also be used to sidestep these things, which is why insight and experience sometimes don't change much in daily life. Psychological work has its limits too. Sometimes the questions go further, towards who you are beneath the stories you tell about yourself. This work gives you room for both: to understand what's in the way, and to explore what lies beyond it.

A grounded approach

I think of spirituality as the deeper dimensions of consciousness, something to be lived and tested in real life, not a belief system or a collection of special states. I don't see psychological healing and spiritual exploration as separate journeys. Both deserve space in the work, and what we focus on follows what's most relevant for you.

Depending on what you bring, we might look at long-held beliefs and emotional patterns, work with different parts of yourself, explore your immediate experience through embodied inquiry, or turn towards questions of awareness, consciousness and identity.

I won't tell you what your experiences mean. I bring my own experience, psychological understanding, intuition and presence to help you explore with greater clarity. I'm an integrative and somatic therapist and the author of The Science of Spirituality and Awakening to Wholeness, and my training includes Psychosynthesis and the Diamond Approach.

The work isn't about becoming more spiritual. It's about discovering what's true in your own experience.

You may think you’re the sum of your thoughts, emotions, behaviours and experiences, but you’re actually the awareness that experiences those things.

Making sense of spiritual awakening

If you're going through a spiritual awakening, or something that feels like one, you may find that familiar beliefs, priorities and ways of seeing yourself begin to change. You might experience a deeper sense of presence or connection, question assumptions you've held for years, or feel that the identity you once relied on no longer describes your experience. Such changes can be profound, but they can also leave you feeling uncertain about how to understand what's happening or how to integrate it into everyday life.

Spiritual coaching offers space to explore these experiences without dismissing them or assuming in advance what they mean. We can look at the questions they raise, the changes they bring to your life and how you might make sense of them in a way that feels authentic to you. The aim isn't to chase extraordinary experiences or reach a particular spiritual state. It's to explore what your experience reveals, allow new understanding to develop and discover how it can inform the way you live.

The dark night of the soul and spiritual emergencies

Sometimes, spiritual awakening brings periods of disorientation, loss of meaning or grief as old ways of seeing yourself fall away. These experiences are often described as a dark night of the soul. When spiritual emergence becomes particularly intense or overwhelming, it may be experienced as a spiritual emergency. Although these experiences can overlap, they aren't the same thing.

Such periods can leave you questioning what is happening and how to make sense of it. We can explore these experiences together, without rushing to interpret them, label them or fix them. If an experience is causing significant distress or affecting your ability to manage everyday life, additional support may also be helpful. Spiritual meaning and the need for professional support aren't mutually exclusive.

All strategies fail because all that "doing" obscures the underlying "being".

Bringing it into everyday life

Profound insights and expanded awareness are only part of the journey. What matters is how it all becomes part of the way you live. You might begin to see a longstanding difficulty from a completely different perspective, discover a clearer sense of meaning or purpose, or recognise possibilities that weren't apparent before. The next step is to explore how that shift can inform your choices, relationships, work and everyday interactions.

Sometimes this leads to a significant change in direction. Sometimes it reveals a small but meaningful change in how you approach a familiar situation. The point isn't to achieve a particular outcome, but to discover what follows naturally from a deeper understanding of yourself and your place in the world.

The aim isn't to escape your humanity, but to understand yourself more deeply and discover what lies beyond the identity you've come to know.

Who is this for?

This work may suit you if you're self-aware, open-minded and curious about going deeper. Perhaps you've been on a spiritual path for years and feel stuck, are making sense of experiences that have changed your perspective, or are just starting to ask questions about consciousness, identity and meaning. You don't need to be spiritual, meditate, follow a tradition or arrive with a clear question. What helps is a willingness to look honestly at yourself and take responsibility for bringing what you discover into your life.

My unique approach combines psychological inquiry and spiritual coaching – the personal and the transpersonal. The process is shaped around you and your experiences, rather than requiring you to follow a prescribed method or reach a predetermined destination. This isn't about someone else telling you who you are or what your experience means. It's about creating the space for you to discover that for yourself.

Ready to begin?

This is ongoing inner work rather than a quick fix. It asks for curiosity, commitment and honesty with yourself, both in sessions and between them. If you're looking for quick answers, or for someone to put things right for you, another kind of support may suit you better.

Lee Bladon FAQ
What is spiritual coaching and mentoring?

It's a one-to-one space to explore spirituality, consciousness, awakening and the deeper nature of who you are. My approach brings psychological understanding and experiential inner work together with spiritual exploration, helping you make sense of your experiences and discover new perspectives. You don't need to follow a particular belief system or spiritual path.

How is this different from therapy?

Therapy often focuses on emotional difficulties, psychological patterns and the effects of past experiences. Spiritual coaching and mentoring places greater emphasis on awareness, identity, consciousness and meaning. There is overlap, though, and my work includes psychological exploration where it's relevant. I don't see psychological healing and spiritual exploration as separate journeys.

Is this the same as working with a spiritual teacher?

A spiritual teacher often guides people within a particular tradition or teaching. My approach is more exploratory and personal. I don't ask you to follow a particular path or adopt specific beliefs. Instead, we explore your own experience, drawing on psychological understanding, inner work and spiritual inquiry to discover what feels meaningful and true for you.

Do I need to be spiritual or religious?

No. You don't need to follow a tradition, adopt particular beliefs or describe yourself as spiritual. An open mind and a willingness to explore your own experience are enough. I work with complete beginners as well as people who have been on the path for many years.

Can you help me make sense of a spiritual awakening?

Absolutely. We can explore your experiences, the questions they raise and how they're affecting your life. I won't impose an interpretation or assume that every unusual experience has a spiritual explanation. The aim is to help you explore openly, allow new understanding to develop and discover what feels meaningful and grounded in your own experience.

Can you help with a dark night of the soul or a spiritual emergency?

Yes. We can explore these experiences together, without rushing to interpret, label or fix them. A dark night of the soul and a spiritual emergency can overlap, but they aren't the same. A dark night is a period of disorientation, loss of meaning or grief as old ways of seeing yourself fall away, while a spiritual emergency is more intense and can feel overwhelming. If you're in significant distress, struggling to function or feel unsafe, please speak to your GP or a mental health professional too. Spiritual meaning and professional support aren't mutually exclusive, and I'm happy to work alongside that support.

What happens during a session?

Sessions are shaped around what you're experiencing and what feels most relevant to explore. We might use conversation, psychological inquiry, parts work, embodied exploration or open inquiry into awareness and identity. The approach depends on you and what's most useful at that point in your journey.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone's journey is different. Some people come with a particular issue they want to explore, while others discover that the work opens up deeper questions about themselves and their lives. Many of my clients choose to continue working with me for months or years because they value the process and the ongoing opportunities for discovery, growth and transformation. I offer five-session packages, with sessions normally taking place weekly. There's no prescribed endpoint, and you decide how long you want to continue.
